Literary lunch: reading sessions
May 2021 | Zoom
The end of the academic year is upon us, and so are exams and thesis submissions. To release a little bit of stress during this draining month, The Lunar Times has planned four events to gather during lunch breaks with the company of a good book...needless to say, from Asia! The reading session would thus be a way not only to unwind but also to discover a new, beautiful book to add to your wishlist! So prepare your food and a cup of your favourite tea, and join us in our literary lunch breaks.
Asian Festivals, Food and Folklore
April 29, 2021 | Zoom
Exams are in sight, and stress is mounting! How about taking a short break and treating yourself to an exciting session of games and quizzes? In April, The Lunar Times will test your knowledge on Asian festivals and folklore: how much do you know about that certain Malaysian festival? Or that Buddhist celebration in Myanmar? Show your friends you are a league ahead of them and learn more about Asia!
Monthly Meeting & Writing Workshop:
Framing Fukushima
March 18, 2021 | Zoom
On the tenth anniversary of Eastern Japan’s triple disaster of March 2011, The Lunar Times will host an event titled “Framing Fukushima”. A decade after the nuclear disaster in Japan, what does the event mean in the region, in wider Japan, and in Asia? Regardless of whether you know anything about Fukushima prefecture or the 2011 nuclear disaster, you're very welcome to join us! Drawing on the board’s personal experiences on Fukushima, we will try to dig into the impact the event has had on people’s livelihood and try to understand how to give it the right frame.
Monthly Meeting & Discussion:
LGBTQIA+ in East and Southeast Asia
February 26, 2021 | Zoom
February is known as the month of love. This month’s meeting will revolve around LGBTQ+ experiences in East and Southeast Asia. Our aim for this meeting is to openly and sensitively reflect on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in the region. We strive to provide a comfortable and safe space for all attendants. We are interested in hearing about the life and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in East and Southeast Asia and we would love to act as a forum for meaningful discussion and exchange of ideas.
Monthly Meeting & Writing Workshop: Genocides in East and Southeast Asia
January 28, 2021 | Zoom
On occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The Lunar Times will be hosting a writing workshop on the topic of genocides in East and Southeast Asia. What do you know about genocides in Asia? How shall we as writers and researchers approach the sensitivities of genocide in a professional yet considerate way? We have prepared a short introduction of the most well-known genocides that happened in East and Southeast Asia, followed by a short writing workshop based on the case of the not-so-known genocide in East Timor.
